Hundreds of children and families from across Bradford have been supported to attend the launch of Bradford City of Culture by Bradford Children and Families Trust. The Trust organised coaches to take children and families from Family Hubs to the event, along with foster parents and youth workers, supporting young people to attend.
Despite the cold temperatures children were able to enjoy the performances. Senior Youth Worker Sharon Osaba was able to take two young people along with tickets received from the Trust. Sharon said,
“We really enjoyed the event. From the moment we arrived, one of the young people constantly said it was “the best night of their life” The DJ was playing, they both loved the music. They were dancing around and making videos of themselves and sending them to family members, they were very excited. They said, “it was banging” and this was before the show had started. Neither young person had been to an event like this before and kept thanking me for taking them.”
The 2025 City of Culture presents an exciting opportunity for the children and young people of Bradford to learn, enjoy new experiences, and engage with culture they may not have before, according to the Trust. The Trust is keen to make sure that the most vulnerable children in the District, can enjoy all the City of Culture has to offer by breaking down some of the barriers they may face including access to transport and tickets. The Bradford 2025 launch is the first of a series of activities the Trust is planning, to support children and families throughout the year.
Charlotte Ramsden, Chief Executive Officer for Bradford Children and Families Trust said,
“It’s been amazing to see so many of our children and young people enjoying this spectacular event. It’s important to us that children and young people from all backgrounds in Bradford enjoy their childhood and have fun growing up. The many events and activities taking place over the next 12 months provide lots of opportunity to do just that and have experiences that will benefit their future. The Trust is working closely with Bradford 2025 to make sure the children and young people we work with can be a part of the City of Culture and feel proud and excited about where they live.”
