Being care experienced is just one part of who you are. We want to support and celebrate your identity and understand what makes you, you. This will include:
- Listening and respecting your experiences and journey. We won’t make assumptions about your identity and will ask you what you want us to know and what support you need from us.
- Get to know your faith and practices, and have regard when we are planning time to spend with you, for example, if you are observing Ramadan
- Celebrate religious festivals and support you to link with faith networks in your area
- If you are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, you can come and join our Leaving Care Group for informal chat and a coffee – just speak to your Personal Adviser who will link you with the group
Relationships are important. We want you to have good relationships and keep in touch with the people who are important to you and reconnect with people you have lost contact with. We can also support you to make new relationships and make connections with other people.
We have developed relationships with lots of community services and support groups in Bradford, that we can connect you with. Talk to your personal advisor about what you need and we can connect you with the community support you need.
There are lots of opportunities for you to be involved with events, activities and celebrations organised by the Leaving Care Service, if you wish to. The Leaving Care service host events and activities for care leavers throughout the year, including a Christmas Dinner and Boxing Day Lunch. We also host an event for Eid, organise events throughout the year to celebrate various cultures, identities, and achievements and celebrate National Care Leavers week every October.
If you live far from the leaving care service, we can arrange transportation for you to join in events.
Bradford Youth Service also hosts lots of activities and opportunities for young people living in Bradford up to age 25 years to engage in community activities and build relationships. You can find out more about their offer at Youth Info | Bradford Council
